NVSC U-10 Premier League

SPONSORED BY NAPA SHERIFF'S ACTIVITY LEAGUE

updated as of 5/1/2007

Goals of the NVSC U-10 premier:

The NVSC U10 Premier’s first goal is to develop youth soccer players by having an environment that allows all the players to be challenged to their best physical and mental abilities.  Utilizing smaller numbers of field players, 5V5 this will provide the opportunity for the children to further develop their physical and TECHNICAL abilities. These are valuable traits for all soccer players to develop. With fewer players on the field each child has an increased number of contacts with the ball and has more actual playing time. Additionally, the players will be required to make more decisions and experience repeating game situations more frequently. The work rate and involvement of players will be more consistent. While learning both offense and defense, players will become well rounded and will understand more readily the roles and importance of teammates. The need for the players to make the mental and physical transition from offense to defense and vice-versa will be enhanced in this playing environment program.

The second goal is to develop parent coaches by focusing on parent/coaches development and their potential. The coaches will be trained to implement the changes to the program and will be involved in the training of the parents to the expectations the program requires.

The third goal is to develop youth referees.

The NVSC U10 Premier program follows the U.S. Youth Soccer Recommendations and Positive Coaching Alliance.

We need to keep our community needs in mind. If we all work together we can make a difference in enhancing our future in soccer. It is necessary that we are all in the same page for this program to work.

Sign Ups:

Any U9 or U10 NYSL registered girl or boy soccer player with the birthday before August 1 can sign up for the N.V.S.C. Premier League.  There are no tryouts or cuts. We encourage the parents to sign up early particularly the new comers, so we can make it easier for player placement into the right team. All players are required to register with N.Y.S.L.  The sign up’s for premier league will be at the same time and place of N.Y.S.L. registration schedule.  For late registration, contact the program coordinator list at the bottom of the page or go to NYSL.org or Napavalleysoccerclub.org

Fees:

The U10 Premier League fee is $50 this is in addition to the NYSL registration fee of $70 that all recreational and club players must pay.  The U10 Premier League $50 fee covers the cost of referees, equipment and trainers.

Team Format:

Girls and boys Premier U-10 teams are formed geographically by elementary schools and the community population, similar to the like N.Y.S.L. recreational teams.  Coaches and parents requests for players and or teams will be taken under consideration.  June 1st is the deadline for U10 Premier signups and team formation.

Each team will consist of no more than 15 players with a minimum of 12 players.  The recommendation of this program requires that you play each player at least 50% of the 40 minutes game.  The goal of the coach is to achieve 70% playing time for each child. Each team will have two parent coaches; coaches will have the responsibility to follow the recommendation of the training program to develop their team.

The U10 Premier Coaching Director will provide additional training to enhance your team’s development.  This will follow the Premier Training program and help parent coaches to achieve their goals.

Game Format:

No scores or standings will be kept.  Teams will be using a size (4) game ball.

League games will be on Saturdays at the Redwood Middle School.  Jamborees will be held at Harvest Middle School.  During league play and jamborees, each team will divide their current team into two [2] teams of 5 –7 players each.  Each 5V5 team will have a sweeper keeper and four field players.   Goalkeepers may not punt the ball, but redistribute the ball by rolling, throwing or passing the ball to teammates.  The goalkeeper may also dribble the ball out of the box. The sweeper keeper will be encouraged to step out side of the 10-yard (goalie) box to help support the offensive attack or deny the defense opportunities to score.

Each mini-team will play four 10-minute quarters with in the hour at the same time on fields that are adjacent to each other. This allows the coach to switch or sub players back & forth between the two games at any time.  There will be a three (3) minute break between quarters, to switch goals and a half-time interval of five (5) minutes to switch fields. Total playing time will be 40 minutes of soccer for each game.

Coaches may substitute at any time during the game [no stoppage of play, similar to that of hockey].  Substitution will take place at the half line.   They’re are no off – sides and no slide tackles permitted.

The playing field, or the pitch; program recommendations are to have a 40 yard length, and 30 yard width. There is a 10-yard sweeper keeper box, and we will have a 7-yard circle spot on the left and right of the goal post. To start goal kicks, any of the 5 players can re-start play.

The rules of play are modified to maintain continuous activity, and encourage the development program that we offer.

With the guidance of the coach and positive support of the parents we can get all the team players exited about playing the game of soccer.

COACHING WILL BE DONE AT PRACTICE ONLY.

GAME DAY IS ABOUT CELEBRATION; Positive behavior can create improvement for the team
